BPA Reaffirms Support for the Federal Network for Sustainability
BPA committed to sustainability in May 2000 when Judy Johansen signed the Original Statement of Unity along with officials from 6 federal agencies in the western region. These agencies promised to coordinate federal leadership efforts on sustainability and to practice sustainability in house. From that, the FNS was formed to act as a catalyst and put the principles into practice.
Steve Wright's signature on October 5, 2001, reaffirms BPA supports for the Federal Network for Sustainability. The focus now is threefold:
- to expand the market power of green government purchasing
- to increase the use of renewable energy
- to develop and use environmental management systems

Environmental Purchasing & Practices Conference - July 18, 2002, Honolulu, HI. Co-sponsored by GSA, the Hawaii Department of Health, the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic
Development & Tourism, and the Federal Network for Sustainability, this conference addressed how and why to buy
environmentally preferable products, what greening the government, hotels and other buildings means, how to do business
with GSA, and how agencies and private industry have incorporated these ideas into their projects and programs. To view the
FNS presentation given by Alan Hurt at this conference, click here(~9MB ppt).
NDIA Environmental & Energy Sysmposium - The theme for this 28th Environmental and Energy Symposium and Exhibition focuses upon the interrelationship and integration of two closely related functional activities of our daily normal lifestyle. The National Defense Industrial Association's (NDIA) leadership has chosen to expand the Environmental Division to encompass the many facets of energy such that those topics/issues relevant to both areas can be better identified, presented and discussed at our Symposium. As a result, both the plenary and technical sessions of the meeting are structured to present and address Environmental and Energy issues related to sustaining federal operations, their management and practices. Read the about FNS speakers at the symposium.
Managing End-of-Life Electronics – The FNS co-sponsored the EPA training workshop at the Federal Facilities Conference May 15, 2002 in Reno, NV.
